CAMCORDERS. CONFESSIONS. QUEER ANGST ON TAPE.
On Thursday 26th March 2026, Be Kind Rewind Bristol heads back downstairs at The Ill Repute with Totally F***ed Up (1993).
Directed by Gregg Araki, this lo-fi landmark of the New Queer Cinema movement is raw, messy, and painfully alive. It follows a group of gay and lesbian teens in LA documenting their lives on video. They talk to camera about love, sex, alienation, family, politics and the exhausting, ecstatic business of just trying to exist.
Shot on grainy video and stitched together like a DIY time capsule, Totally F***ed Up feels intimate and immediate, like you’ve found someone’s private tape and hit play. It’s funny, confrontational, romantic, furious and fragile all at once. A film about youth and friendship that refuses to sand down its rough edges.
