TRYANI COLLECTIVE
Tryani Collective is a six-piece vocal and percussion ensemble dedicated to the pursuit of polyphony. Forging Mediterranean folk traditions with the raw spirit of English lyrical heritage and medieval harmony, the group builds a state of rhythmic hypnosis, crafting a sound that is at once cinematic, percussive, and deeply human.

The project was born in 2019 following a life-changing performance by the Occitan ensemble San Salvador. Witnessing the voice as a vehicle for collective power, Danny Tryani sought to harness that same visceral energy to combat modern isolation. He began to reimagine a 'lost' English lineage – communal, medieval-inspired polyphony – for a contemporary audience. Since Tryani Collective’s debut in 2022, this exploration has evolved into a powerhouse ensemble, bridging ancient, ritualistic fervour with a distinctly modern sensibility.

The Collective’s momentum is currently at its peak, having captivated audiences all over the UK. Recent highlights include Fire in the Mountain’s Main Stage, a standout performance on the Next Stage at Shambala Festival and the release of their track on Something In The Water – a collaborative compilation from Severn Records and The Gallimaufry, mixed by Pete Cunningham of Ishmael Ensemble. Their latest single, Cumulonimbus, is also out now across streaming platforms.

Following previous Jam Jar gigs supporting Bab L’ Bluz (Real World Records) and a headline show last year with Stevie Toddler (Rum Buffalo/Nuala Honan) and Harriet Riley (Zoobers/Spindle Ensemble), Tryani Collective’s return on October 21st, 2026, feels like a homecoming for some of the most compelling musicians on the Bristol music scene. This special double headline show features Nicky Barry (Safrela/Afon Sistema), Rowan Elliot (Solana/Tamsin Elliott Trio), Roland George Harrad (Bristol Improv Theatre), Danny Tryani (Soma Soma/Bella Hardy), Suzi MacGregor (Cove Jam) and Beth Roberts (Hedera).

Whether performing at Bristol staples like The Canteen and Carnival in the Undergrowth, or delivering a thunderous sold-out show at Ashburton Arts Centre bolstered by the huge Dartsong Chorus in an immersive wall of sound – Tryani Collective turns every performance into an ecstatic communal event. They are currently pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the English-language folk sphere, crafting compositions that are as technically demanding as they are emotionally resonant.

BETH ROBERTS
Beth Roberts is a songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Bristol, UK. Her magnetic voice hints at ancient folksongs & sacred madrigals as she soars over intricate banjo & guitar patterns picked out in unusual modes, with buoyant grooves underscored by subtle drums and intertwined guitar lines. Her music explores themes of post-religious identity, grief, uncertainty, renewal and joy. She performs with a hypnotic intimacy that draws listeners into communion with themselves and each other - an invitation to cry, dance, or both.

Recent gigs include Fire in the Mountain & Seeker festivals, and support for Ye Vagabonds on several sold out tour dates including Bristol Beacon; she’s also opened for Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Fran & Flora, Rachel Sermanni.

Her core collaborations form a vibrant constellation of acclaimed folk-aligned projects with a strong DIY ethos: Hedera (**** The Guardian), Hands of the Heron (“near-telepathic unaccompanied singing” – PROG Magazine), Tryani Collective (“Emotionally powerful” – Jazzwise Magazine) and House of Figs (“Hypnotic… radiates tenderness and awe” – Sabotage Reviews). She is in the cast of Malaika Kegode’s new folk play Badgers as a performer and contributing composer, with a world premiere at Edinburgh Fringe and tour dates at Bristol Old Vic and Theatre Royal Plymouth.

She is co-director of Cuculi Records, enabling independent emerging artists to share their music on their own terms, and she curates the long-running Cuculi Presents gig series around Bristol, creating listening spaces for quiet new music that falls between genre gaps. She is Musician-in-Residence at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston, bringing music to patients on wards.

She co-writes with Ben Osborn & Malo Moray (Germany) in experimental project Trialogue, and she’s recorded & performed with rising UK artists Ishmael Ensemble, Emily Isherwood, Waldo’s Gift, Fritillaries and Âellin. Her poetry & playing featured in From The Coop, a film created by Tamsin Elliott to document their shared household during lockdown.
