Laura Wilkie is a Fiddle player from Tain in the Highlands of Scotland. She has a unique style which has roots in the Highland fiddle traditions but is influenced by an eclectic range of music from all genres. Her latest project ‘Vent’ is centred around ancient women’s work songs - Waulking songs. She studied these to adapt them for the fiddle, immersing herself in the Scottish archives.
Laura has toured across the world in various different groups and artists within the contemporary folk music scene, including Kinnaris Quintet, guitar-virtuoso Ian Carr, Ross Ainslie, Salsa Celtica, NITEWORKS and with Scots Singers, Claire Hastings, Beth Malcolm & Siobhan Miller.
As a founding member of Glasgow-based Jazz/Funk/R&B/Synth/Folk Juggernaut, Fat-Suit, Laura has been inspired to play with elements of improvisation in different styles, making her a versatile influence on each project. Collaborations include performing, writing and arranging with top bands and artists including Shooglenifty, Man of the Minch, Rachel Sermanni, The Elephant Sessions, Paul Towndrow’s Keywork Orchestra, Fatherson, GRIT Orchestra and many more.
Blending jazz with the spirit of Scottish folk, pianist Fergus McCreadie crafts music inspired by his homeland’s breath-taking landscapes. His sound transcends genre, connecting deeply with audiences worldwide. Fergus’s 2022 album Forest Floor was met with instant critical acclaim, topping the UK Jazz & Blues charts and earning him a Mercury Prize shortlist nomination, Jazz FM’s Instrumentalist of the Year Award, and the Scottish Album of the Year Award—the first jazz artist to receive the honour. The album also led to sold-out UK shows and praise from BBC 6Music, NME, and The Times. His 2024 follow-up, Stream, continues his sonic exploration of nature, this time capturing the fluid beauty of water. An official Yamaha Artist, Fergus remains at the forefront of contemporary jazz. Fergus is the Artist In Residence for Chamber Music Scotland.
