Loose Leaf: A night in aid of Tree Sisters

— Jamaica Street Stores
An evening of art and music revolving around all things old, new, strange and pure.
price: Headfirst Tickets

An evening about listening, observation and creativity in aid of Tree Sisters. As other-wordly music reverberates around your ears, you will transported to an oasis of climate-conscious art wanderings and an unparalleled live painting performance. All things old, new, strange and pure will be played, ranging from Psych-Rock to Arabielectro.

This stimulating evening of music will be brought to you by:

DAR DISKU Records:

'Dar-Disku' comes from the 1970s Egyptian pop culture magazine of the same name and directly translates into 'home of the disco'. Dar Disku is a label celebrating music from across Arabia. Founded by Mazen AlMaskati and Vish Mhatre in 2018, the label encompasses all things psychedelic, hip-hop and disco orientated.

Having spent the last few years discovering incredible sub-genres such as Dabke, Rai, ArabiDisco, Habibi House, Afrodisco, Sawt and Khaliji and within 12 months, Dar Disku has shared the stage with artists such as Habibi Funk, Nabihah Iqbal and Awesome Tapes From Africa, Esa and played iconic venues and festivals across the world (Lisbon, Dublin, Mumbai, Istanbul, Paris, Bahrain, Lovebox Festival, Le Mellotron & more). Dar Disku have also been featured on Nabihah Iqbal's BBC Radio residency, for which they curated a guest mix inspired by night time drives in Bahrain and have recently been named as residents on the iconic Worldwide FM.
Their upcoming release “DD003” is set for release at the end of February 2020 and features edits of Egyptian new beat and pop. It’s received support from the likes of DJ Seinfeld, Palms Trax and Esa and so many more.

The Grey Area:
Opening the night, is monthly resident at Noods Radio, The Grey Area. His selections are a blissful journey down the road less traveled. Paying special attention to the weird and unknown, expect to hear an hour of weird and wonderful music from around the globe, joining the dots between Jazz, Ambient, Post Punk, Psychedelia and deep grooves from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and their diaspora.

This one-man band has promoted some of the most exciting gigs in Bristol, and so far have booked the likes of: Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, Goat (Japan), Miho Hatori, Etuk Ubong, Kikagaku Moyo, Dakha Brakha and more.

Loose Leaf Residents:
Hosts of the evening, Michaela Grei and Millie McKee will be showcasing their eclectic musical findings of the last 3 years. They have supported the likes of Donna Leake (Brilliant Corners) and have played their selection of records around many infamous Bristol venues such as The Love Inn and The Crofters Rights. Difficult as it will be to compress years of musical exploration into a few hours, they’ll do their very best to welcome you to their slice of their strangeness.

LIVE Painting:
Alongside the music, will be a rare live painting performance. Surrounding the theme of the climate crisis, Helena Lacey's captivating performance will align with our aims of the night; to not only highlight the importance of our planet, but also to capture the freedom and power of creative spirit.

TreeSisters: women seeding change :
TreeSisters exists to elicit collective responsibility for planetary restoration at the grass roots level with a focus on women and tropical reforestation. They are growing a global network of women who donate monthly to fund the acceleration of tropical reforestation as an expression of collective planetary care. Their mission aims to rapidly accelerate tropical reforestation by inspiring women’s nature-based feminine leadership into local and global action.

With exactly one month to go, this is one to get on board with. The capacity for this experience is very limited, so book yourself in for the journey.
