held at KIT FORM
on Saturday 3rd February. The event starts at 10:30.
BEEF presents Wild Solarisation - B&W 16mm hand made film workshop led by the French darkroom alchemist Gaëlle Rouard.
During this two day workshop we will explore the mysterious world of solarisation.
Starting in the darkroom we will produce 16mm film loops by contact printing found footage. We will then interrupt the developer stage and intentionally introduce light back to the emulsion to solarise the image. Introducing both negative and positive to the same film strip and even within the same frame.
As an extra treat we will then play these film loops through several projectors to explore the potential of the projector as a performative instrument.
Please note you will need to commit to the two days
Saturday 03rd Feb 10:00 - 17:30.
Sunday 04th Feb 11:00 - 18:00
Gaëlle Rouard has been making handmade films since the early ‘90s. She is a long time member of the ‘102 rue d’Alembert’, a venue dedicated to the creation and diffusion of experimental music and film. She also ran the film lab Atelier MTK in Grenoble for 12 years until 2006. An alchemist specialising in the precipitation of silver on film, she has developed and still exploring various methods of chemical processing on film, while experimenting with the possibilities of live multi-projection in both solo and collaborative forms.
Gaëlle Rouard will be screening her 16mm film Darkness, darkness, burning bright at the Cube Microplex on Saturday 03rd Feb. Live Q&A with the artist and Louisa Fairlclough after the screening and DJ set from Dali de Saint Paul.
Programmed alongside Oliver Dickens (Sonic Cinema), with support from Institut Français.
