Tropical Tea Party Ft Chief Rockas, Tom Excell &. at LEFTBANK
See event details

A gig held at LEFTBANK on Saturday 1st December. The event starts at 20:00.

For our next Tropical Tea Party we welcome the champion Dub-Reggae producers Chief Rockas Collective, contemporary world music pioneer Tom Excell (of Nubiyan Twist), our tropical beatsmith DJ Hiphoppapotamus and vintage remix selectah Fizzy Gillespie!

As per usual we'll be transforming the LeftBank Bristol into a tropical paradise with our beloved decor and laying on the leis, limbo and GOOD VIBES!

A little something about the DJs....

Chief Rockas Collective - Pioneers of a rootsy, but fat and fresh Reggae-Dub sound their productions are 2nd to none. Any avid dub listeners or selectors have likely heard or dropped their Supercat dubplate amongst their many other unreleased gems as well as their latest release on their own JUST-IS Records label. With the main men hailing from Norfolk and Leeds this is a rare appearance for them in Bristol so best bring your skanking shoes and make the most of it!

Tom Excell - is an incredible multi-talented musician, best known as guitar player and producer with Nubiyan Twist and more recently for his new band ONIPA. For his first visit to TTP he plays us a DJ set of his favourite global vibes and productions, expect delicious worldly infused treats, often with a contemporary twist, but always heavy on the roots, rhythms and jazzy-ness!

DJ Hiphoppapotamus - Tropical Tea Party's chief noisemaker and music programmer, if you're familiar with us at TTP I'm sure you already know about him and his love for fusing tropical sounds with all forms of dance music be it Boogaloo with Breaks, Afrobeat with House, Reggae with Hip Hop or Brazilian with Jungle! And with new releases in the pipeline you may just a get a chance to hear an exclusive... or two... or three!

Fizzy Gillespie - This whippersnapper has grown and developed quicker than anyone we've witnessed in this rootsy music scene. A man with a fantastic work ethic and thirst for the vibes he is the other half of Global Beats Club and Swing & Bass and a core member of the Continental Drifts family. Whilst his roots are mainly in swing & bass and vintage-remix he also boasts a premium tropical selectiaaaan!
