Ladyfriends x Misscoteque at Loco Klub
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Lesbian suffragettes smash down the fourth wall of Loco Klub in a period drama like no other. Drawing on questionable historical data, Powerpoint presentations and guitar solos to weave a forgotten queer love story that’d make the BBC blush."

Annie and Christabel are dating. Historians dispute this on the grounds of ‘inaccuracies’ and ‘lack of scholastic rigour’ and ‘the over-interpretation of the fact that women shared bedrooms’.

Ladyfriends is a high-octane romp through love letters, third dates, and lesbian period dramas – via the (probably) true stories of Annie Kenney and Christabel Pankhurst. Rammed with live music and film, it digs up real-life queer history to ask the age-old question: “are we dating, or are we just really good friends?” Expect confetti, PowerPoints, and power ballads.

From 9.30pm, Misscoteque DJs will deliver disco-inspired bassy vibrations of varying flavours to get the Ladyfriends afterparty jumping. This includes both vinyl and digital selectas serving straight up disco, synthy 80s pop, funky world music, feel-good 90s house, and of course UKG.

Start time: 7.30pm
Run time: 110 minutes, plus club night from 10pm until late.
Suitable for ages 14+ (club night 18+)
Content Warning: Themes of homophobia. Flashing lights, loud noise, visual effects (e.g. streamers, glitter curtains, confetti cannons).
All performances are semi relaxed and include unlimited exit and reentry, and pre show introduction.

ABOUT MISSCOTEQUE

Misscoteque creates an intentional space centred upon queer joy and gender inclusivity. With their monthly, sell-out residency at Lost Horizon, the Misscoteque team reimagines Bristol’s late-20th-century lesbian disco scene in a 21st-century context, gathering the legacies of those underground spaces and reconstructing them at louder, prouder, aesthetic and sonic volume. Using uplifting sounds and platforming varied citations of art, installations and performance, Misscoteque spaces are always unique.

MISSCOTEQUE INCLUSIVITY POLICY

We welcome anyone and everyone who identifies as a woman, non-binary, intersex and/or trans* to our reimagined 80s lesbian disco. Please be assured however that NOBODY’S gender will be questioned, we only ask that our attendees respect that this is the policy of our space.

There will be someone on the door from the Misscoteque team explaining this policy to everyone who attends, they will be happy to answer any questions anyone might have.

*For the sake of clarity, this translates to NO CIS MEN in the building, including staff and crew.
