It’s the second Saturday of the month, which can only mean one thing. It’s time to funk the patriarchy!
Misscoteque creates an intentional space centred upon queer joy and gender inclusivity. We are seeing out the summer in our signature lesbian disco style, with selectas, sights, and sounds that’ll make you say ‘oooooo yeah’.
We reimagine Bristol’s late-20th-century lesbian disco scene in a 21st-century context, gathering the legacies of those underground spaces and reconstructing them at louder, prouder, aesthetic and sonic volume. We run a FLINT policy, meaning we welcome anyone and everyone who identifies as female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, and/or trans.* In particular, moving forwards as a collective and a night, Misscoteque opens its arms towards the older members of this community. Lesbian pubs and clubs were once the site of a beautiful intersection of ages and queer experience, where one could go to feel nurtured and empowered by a chosen family. We want to celebrate and revive this.
*For the sake of clarity, this translates to NO CIS MEN in the building, including staff and crew.
The event will be soundtracked by an incredible line-up of queer female and non-binary DJs:
Adeevah
DJ Ammi (vinyl set)
Maze
Kate Havoc
Jaffey
All our artists will deliver disco-inspired bassy vibrations of varying flavours, including but not limited to straight up disco, funk, synthy 80s pop, feel-good old skool house, and a healthy dose of UKG.
Tickets are available via Headfirst, Resident Advisor, and Skiddle, and cost £8. If you are unable to afford a ticket then please contact us at [email protected] for a free one. Please respect that this concession is on offer for those in less financially comfortable positions and also that minority groups will be prioritised. If you are able, please also consider paying forward a little extra, to help us offer free tickets to those who are less financially secure. In particular, if you are an ally, we gently offer you this option in the hope that you can help us provide free tickets to those who most need the space, namely gender minorities, queer POC, and the less able-bodied. Please do not feel that this is an expectation, just a suggestion and a step towards our goal of creating as inclusive a space as possible.
