Nick Manasseh & Downbeat Melody at Lost Horizon

A clubnight held at Lost Horizon on Saturday 5th September. The event starts at 22:00.

Manasseh has occupied a vibrant space in the worldwide reggae music community for 25 years. A sound system built by a group of school friends for Notting Hill Carnival in ’85; the Manasseh crew played reggae with roots – a sound missing from the scene at that time. The legendary Manasseh late-night dub show occupied a slot on Kiss FM from ’87-‘90, and Nick has been selecting from his distinctive collection of music for broadcast and the dance ever since, pleasing crowds across the globe. As a producer, Manasseh is widely credited for pioneering the ‘UK Steppers’ genre with Sound Iration’s ‘Seventh Seal’ in ’88 and has gone on to
produce records on Acid Jazz, Riz Records, and Roots Garden records - a label Nick co-founded in 2004, on which he last released the ‘Manasseh Meets Praise’ LP, a collaboration with virtuoso violin-viola player ‘Praise’.

Nick engineers, produces, writes, and mixes music for artists flying in from all over the world at his studio, 'The Yard', in Ladbroke Grove; such as Marcia Griffiths, Horace Andy, Dido, Emiliana Torrini, Soothsayers, Pama International, The Dub Pistols, Hempolics, Paradise Bangkok, Almagretta, 12- piece panpipe band from the Solomon Islands - Narasirato, to name a few. The ‘Soul Revivers’ project with David Hill sees Nick back on Acid Jazz
Records. The debut album from the project - ‘On The Grove’, featuring artists including Ernest Ranglin, Ken Boothe and Earl Sixteen, has been widely acclaimed and featured on BBC Radio 6 Music & 1xtra, as well as HBO/Channel 4 cop drama 'Get Millie Black'. The second album will be coming very soon.
