SISTXERHOOD STAGE: FUNDRAISER at Lost Horizon
See event details

A clubnight held at Lost Horizon on Thursday 1st June. The event starts at 19:00.

This fundraiser features two of our four incredible collectives committed to providing representation and a safer space for queer people and women in music and nightlife both in Bristol and within the Sistxrhood stage. Coming together for one night only outside of the muddy Pilton fields; Queerky and Misscoteque will be bringing the best of queer techno house, breaks, dusty old skool disco, euphoric sounds across the spectrum of UK bass genres, and a huge warm rush of radical queer joy.

Policy:

Have you ever wondered what a night would be like without CIS Males? Sistxrhood embrace just this! Operating a FLINT POLICY, this is a night that is open to people identifying as Femme, Lesbian, Intersex, Non Binary and Transgender exclusively. For one night only, we are welcoming CIS ALLIES to come to the party and support our cause. We ask that our CIS ALLIES come along WITH a FLINT identifying person so we know you’re a good egg and will respect the space, the ethos and essentially, eachother.

HERE'S THE FACTS:

In 2022, out of 200 headline acts, a YouGov survey found 26 were female, one identified as non-binary, 24 had a mixed line-up of male and female performers, and the rest (149) were either an all-male band or a male solo artist. This means just 13 per cent of UK headliners will be female musicians this summer.

This problem doesn’t start on festival stages. A report by Bain published in 2019 revealed that female acts and songwriters counted for just 14% of those signed to 106 British music publishers, and that women made up under 20% of those signed to 219 British record labels.

In 2022, 30% of artists on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Chart were women, which was an improvement over 2021's 23.3% and a significant increase since 2012. Across an 11-year span and 1,100 songs, the overall percentage of female artists was 22.3%. This is a ratio of 3.5 male artists to every 1 female artist.

In a recent conversation with MixMag, Saffron records reported that less than 5% of the music industry are women, non-binary and trans people. They also reported that only 1% of this 5% figure are Black, Asian or ethnically diverse. More statistics are hard to come by in relation to non-binary and transgender artists, as the erasure and misinformation from mainstream media and politics trickles down making it more difficult for people to access basic human rights, let alone have a space in the industry.

These collectives are fighting just that.

Fundraiser:

To make this happen, we need your support to raise £1500 for Sound System and Performance Tools, £1000 for Lighting and Auxiliaries, £500 for Transport, Logistics, and Insurance, and £500 for fundraiser expenses. With your help, we can create a safe and inclusive space for artists and audiences alike.

By supporting our campaign, you will not only be getting a chance to party the night away but you’ll be helping us create an incredible space for underrepresented musicians and performers and helping to promote greater diversity and inclusivity in the music industry.

We believe that music and performance art has the power to bring people together and break down barriers. By supporting our campaign, you will be helping to make this vision a reality. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a huge difference to our cause. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to a better future at Glastonbury and beyond.

About Misscoteque:

Misscoteque is a Bristol-based party for women, non-binary, trans, and intersex folk. Founded on archival and oral history research by one of its co-creators, it aims to reconstruct Bristol’s lost lesbian spaces, and in doing so to queer the boundaries between ‘nightlife’ and ‘activism’. Expect dusty old skool disco, euphoric sounds across the spectrum of UK bass genres, and a huge warm rush of radical queer joy!

About Queerky:

QUEERKY is a rave party, but first of all it’s a Queer gathering. The music is Techno, meant in the European inclusive sense of the term, ranging from electronica, breaks, berlin, hard-style, and house… but all with a surprisingly distinctive and unifying flavour.

The Community is at the heart of the project. We try to foster a homely and warm atmosphere, and to create a safer space for everyone to feel comfortable in their skin, accepted and enabled to explore their gender identity in a protected environment.

The DJs are all part of the local queer scene, with a few occasional guests. You won't always find big names at Queerky, but can be sure the music will be exquisitely on point!

The project started in 2021, which the core members spent in a support bubble, teaching each other how to DJ and celebrating their love for music in the size of 6 people living-room parties. When clubs reopened it busted out, and Queerky was born.

The aim of the project is to allow members of Bristol’s queer community to have a family, and a platform for artists to be visible in a society that still privileges heteronormativity.

We are proudly anti-patriarchal, anti-racist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, and ready to dance our way together through these times of change.
