Control Shift X Algorave at Lost Horizon
See event details

A gig held at Lost Horizon on Thursday 30th March. The event starts at 19:00.

Algorithms + Rave: Algorave is bringing the best in live-coded electronic dance music, live algorithmic visuals and experimental robotics to Lost Horizon HQ as the launch of Control Shift's ~ Feeling Machines Weekender.

At Algoraves artists and electronic musicians make futuristic rhythms and beats using live algorithmic processes. All code is projected - so you can see how the artists make sound and visuals live. Since starting in 2012, Algorave has established a large global community that encourages experimentation, creates original and open source software tools, and most importantly fun dance music events!

We bring together live-coding artists from across the UK alongside installations from Bristol based digital artists including a live experimental robotics prototype from Air Giants.

Featured artists include: Heavy Lifting, hellocatfood, Yaxu, Rumblesan, Joana Chicau, David Matunda.

“.. not so much a revolution as a de-volution, a rolling back to the backend of music production, where the possibilities of the encoded information inside computer software is open and endless” – Mixmag

“Live coders write computer programs live, while the programs generate their music, but the focus is on people dancing and seriously enjoying themselves” – Dazed and Confused

“The scene at an algorave is often what you’d expect from any good techno night – a dark room, engaging visuals. a decent, bass-heavy speaker set-up, and lots of people ready to dance. .. performers at algoraves respond to each other and the audience in real time, often projecting the lines of code onto the walls as they type. lt’s coding as improvisation and experiment..” – The Wire magazine
