Formed in their home town of Bath in 2007, The Blood Choir have built up a reputation as one of the most interesting and unclassifiable new bands in Britain. Based around the songwriting team of Robin Maddicott and Joe Mountain, the group started performing, initially, as an acoustic duo, building up a strong following and gaining support slots with revered artists such as The Sadies and Josh Ritter. During this time they also began recording material for what would become the Dartmoor EP (2009). For these recordings, Robin and Joe added drums, bass and various other instruments. Playing everything themselves, they created a strikingly full sound, which was simultaneously epic yet, unnervingly, intimate. The EP also showcased the band's unique lyrical talent. Whilst never officially released, the Dartmoor EP was widely bootlegged, and won the band a number of celebrity fans including Garth Hudson (The Band), Jacquire King (Producer: Tom Waits), and Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music). Robin and Joe have continued to write and record new material, and will soon be releasing their, long anticipated, debut album: No Windows To The Old World. The record features contributions from cellist Beth Porter, and is produced by The Blood Choir & Tim Oliver (Robert Plant, New Order, Tinariwen). 2011 has seen the addition of two new members: Reuben Tyghe (Drums) and Jacob Tyghe (Bass), which has enabled The Blood Choir to fully reproduce their recorded sound in a live setting. Their debut gig as a four-piece was with The Handsome Family on May 16th. No Windows To The Old World will be released in Feb 2012, and the band will be touring extensively to coincide with the release.
