Wednesday 27th April - The Keys + Peru + Ulysses
The Keys (Onstage 10.00pm)
Hailing from the Welsh capital of Cardiff, contemporary psych-rockers The Keys are back with their signature brand of cosmic flavour to release their first full-length album, 'Bitten By Wolves' through See Monkey Do Monkey Recordings on May 2nd 2011.
Following the release of 2010's mini album'Fire Inside', the band have been capturing the imagination of industry and public alike, garnering praise and support from Radio 1's Huw Stephens, Clash magazine, Metro, BBC 6 Music, Radio 2, Shindig!, Mark Lamarr and BBC Radio Wales' Adam Walton and Bethan Elfyn.
Having risen from the ashes of the much lauded Murry The Hump once labelled by Alex James of Blur as'the best new band in Britain', counting Damien Hirst and the late Joe Strummer as fans and notching up several John Peel sessions The Keys are a band whose musical pedigree cannot be argued with.
Drawing on a range of quality influences from Animal Collective, Captain Beefheart, Can, Spirit, The Black Keys, Frank Zappa, Panda Bear and Spiritualized, The Keys adeptly blend together the new and the old, sitting alongside the likes of Super Furry Animals, The Coral, Malachai, Tame Impala and The Bees.
Peru (Onstage 9.15pm)
Originally formed in 1992 and named in honour of the brilliant 1978 Peruvian World Cup football squad.
These Indie Popsters disbanded in 1996 but then reformed in 2010 and released the album'Across Blue Skys' a 16-track compilation album of tracks recorded between 1992 and 1996.
Fans of C86 Sarah Records/Creation/Subway, Field Mice, Sea Urchins, McCarthy etc will enjoy.
Ulysses look like a cluster of illegitimate love children from a Keith Richards/ Marc Bolan tryst. Like The Wombles crossed with Badfinger.
They are a real rock'n' roll band, delivered from the'70s but minus the posturing. They aren't re-writing the rules, it being rock'n' roll and all, instead smacking of melody and huge choruses.
You can't help but stamp your feet, nod your head and prepare to bray at this Bath four-piece.
