Pip Fluteman: of Manchester, UK started where most young Northern English musicians hope to advance to; playing with and writing for the defunct Manchester Indie Rock n Roll band The Quangos.
Being the hip label Scruff of the neck’s first signing, his group supported the likes of The Fratellis, Little Man Tate and Cast. Circa 2013 his band was billed with now highly successful bands Blossoms and Catfish and The Bottlemen. The band had a sponsorship with Fred Perry and Jack Wills, their music was played weekly on BBC radio Manchester, Bez of Happy Mondays was their manager and they were selling out five hundred capacity venues in and around Manchester.
Pip was driven with a different ambition than that of the band once he became aquatinted with and immensely fond of the music and messages of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. He wanted to make music filled with honesty and emotion.
For the past four years Pip has independently booked and played shows in cosy cafes and intimate venues in over fifteen countries across mainland Europe allowing himself space and time to soak in and write about the people he has met, his experiences and the world around him.
Pip discovered his style in 2015 and hurried to a studio in Sheffield to record his first album ‘Mustard Eyes’. He chose to record to a 1970’s tape machine as he was in search for a timeless, traditional sound for his nostalgic songs, Pip has kept to this recording formula to date. Loaded with 200 copies of this record he toured extensively, performing as much as he could, sleeping on the sofas of the kind people he would meet. Three more albums in as many years and endless touring across Europe followed over this time.
Throughout 2019, he plans to release singles with music videos so as to learn how to reach the standard of his creative desires. The songs will be his first digital releases and the first using processed drums.
