A
gig
held at Mr Wolfs
on Monday 8th October. The event starts at 21:00.
Poundshop Life: play spiky, jangly, infectious but curable pop songs reflecting on whatever needs reflecting on.
Sounding like the outcast and genetically modified cousins of Ian Dury, Elvis Costello and Barbara Windsor, Poundshop Life play their own brand of "nearly new wave" music - immediate, cheery tunes with bitter and twisted lyrics and happy endings. Cheap and cheerful, and very good live.
Poundshop Life are from Bristol, playing regular gigs around the area.

Nigel Philip Davies is a highly respected folk singer, musician and composer who has headlined concerts and festivals throughout Wales and is also very comfortable in the more intimate environment where he can quickly make a strong connection with his audience through his songs and storytelling.
While at university he got involved in the music concert scene and worked with Stephane Grapelli and George Melly amongst others. A brief involvement with Van Der Graaf Generator led Nigel to work in the legendary Rockfield Studios as a session man, contributing to many albums and singles in diverse genres. This versatility was to inform his musical styles in his performing career over subsequent years. Along the way, he taught himself guitar to a level where he played electric lead in bands in the 80s and 90s, though Nigel always preferred the acoustic as the vehicle for his music, especially his own lyrical compositions.
Other influences on him were, firstly Bob Dylan, then Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits. The lyrical impact of songs became very important to him and he found he had the skill to incorporate strong, meaningful lyrics into his own songs.
He has shared the bill with Simple Minds, The Strawbs, Stackridge, Adrian Edmondson and Grammy Winning artist Amy Wadge among many others.
