The Penny Black Remedy
Since being formed in 2006 by singer/songwriter Keith M Thomson, The Penny Black Remedy have been proudly defiant in the face of categorisation – focusing instead on utilising their shared love and passion for all forms of music from around the globe to create a wholly distinctive and unmistakable sound all of their own. The resulting symbiance of darkly comic, unpretentiously intelligent and catchy songs, and their exhilarating live shows, have been wowing audiences and promoters alike across both the UK and Europe, building a loyal following of dedicated fans as a result.

Offbeat
Defined by Webster’s dictionary as “Different from the ordinary, usual or expected”, rapper Offbeat more than lives up to his name. Fusing Hip Hop vocals with Electro Swing inspired beats, he is quickly carving a niche for himself and gaining recognition from fans of both genres.
Discovering Hip Hop at an early age, Offbeat immediately fell in love with the sound but, regrettably growing up in the picturesque Cotswolds (the nice bit at that), often felt a disconnection between his reality and the gun, hoe and bling-laden rhymes uttered by the gangster rappers he idolised. As a teenager he began rapping himself but, after leaving home, tragically fell victim to a near-fatal case of growing up.
It wasn’t until 10 years later that a promoter friend invited him to an Electro Swing night. Not knowing what this was, he attended with some curiosity and instantly felt the same passion and enthusiasm that he had for Hip Hop all those years ago. Under the influence of several drinks, he misguidedly declared that if his friend were to put him on in a month’s time, he would prepare enough material to perform a set of his own. Needless to say, the next morning he regretted this. However, Offbeat made good on his promise and, following the success of this show, has carried on ever since.
With a style that has been described as “Mike Skinner meets Will from the Inbetweeners”, Offbeat blends observational comedy with universal topics ranging from online dating to reality television. His trademark humour and lighthearted lyrics perfectly encapsulate the fun and upbeat energy of the Swing-inspired instrumentals over which he raps, resulting in a truly original and feel good sound.
