The Cypher

The concept - 'whose line is it anyway? ' meets rap battle, rooted in old skool block party hip hop ethic . . . the Cypher refers to the circular form of freestyle rap, MCs/poets arranged in a circular fashion passing the mic to the left hand side, the ethic is more supportive, funny, friendly and positive than the current rap battle scene, and stems directly from the roots of the hip hop tree . . .

Format - 5-6 MCs/poets each week, backline of drums, bass and dj, Laurie compere-ing, one featured emcee/poet each month, a current affairs slot, freestyle rap challenges, cypher, followed by DJ playing uplifting old skool hip hop . . . also possibly live graffiti outside, and some breakdancers if we can find them . . .

Freestyle rap challenges would be along the lines of - player 1 is godzilla, player 2 is an alien from planet X, GO! or player 1 is rupert murdoch, player 2 is julian assange, GO! or player 1 is jesus, player 2 is the devil, GO! You get the picture . . .
