Assembly Nights Presents:
No Go Stop + Marla Kether

Driving percussion, ancestral Funk, snappy arrangements and heady improvisations are at the heart of No Go Stop’s sound. Featuring Marie Lister’s powerful vocal, the Bristol powerhouse features musicians who have performed with the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, Jazz Defenders, Dundundun, The Heavy, Sheelanagig, and Pete Josef.

Autumn 2022 sees the release of No Go Stop’s second album ‘Where We Are’. It captures the energy live sound that earned the band support slots with Snarky Puppy and Ebo Taylor, as well as hosting Bristol’s tribute to Fela Kuti alongside Dele Sosimi and performing at countless festivals including Glastonbury, Greenman, Boomtown and Shambala.

The album has been two years in the making and follows their well-received debut ‘Agbara Orin’, which garnered support from BBC6 Music, Songlines and set out their stool as a high energy 12 piece with a contemporary spin on the Afrobeat sound.

“The Bristol band have a real feel for what Fela Kuti and Tony Allen created 40 years ago...No Go Stop sound like real contenders for the contemporary Afrobeat crown.” – Songlines

Marla Kether:
Marla’s journey began in London, where she was born to Congolese parents. She started playing the bass guitar aged 12 and has since played many high-profile performances in various countries, including Glastonbury, Gaeta Jazz Festival in Italy and Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Kenya. She is currently working with vocalists Yazmin Lacey, Ego Ella May and Obongjayar, as well as working on a self-produced dance music EP to be released in the next 18 months.

Since taking up DJing in lockdown in 2020 Marla has rapidly honed her craft, playing at venues such as Lakota Gardens and The Exchange, and contributing outstanding mixes for the likes of BBC Introducing in the West, Foundation FM and 1020 Radio.

The different strands of Marla’s musical career are almost as diverse and otherworldly as her excellent selections, which commonly feature a bass-led blend of kuduro, GQOM, techno and Jersey club, as well as high-energy house and disco tunes from around the globe.
