Celebrating Haitian Heritage Month we'll be offering in person and online activities that highlight Haitian Art and Culture. All workshops will be taught by Haitian Artists that are masters at combining art and wellness. All the activities have been curated by the Create Your Well Podcast.

This is a charity event and all proceeds will go towards building the Kriye Bode Cultural Community Center. The Kriye Bode Project has been creating high quality cultural experiences in Haiti, US, and around the world for over 15 years. The Kriye Bode Center will serve as a hub for educational and cultural revitalization and will be located in St Marc Haiti.

Join us for a week that will nourish your mind body and soul.
About Laura Beaubrun

Laura Beaubrun was born in Haiti where artistic expression is an essential tool to navigate the ups and downs of everyday life. She was raised by her artist/activist parents- the founders of the legendary musical group Boukman Eksperyans- to honor the woman as a “Poto Mitan” or central pillar around which culture and tradition are enriched and passed on. Her journey has been about growing into and gracefully occupying that space.

Although Laura has trained technically with artists such as Lavinia Williams and Jean-Guy Saintus; gained experience performing with Boukman Eksperyans; earned a degree in interior architecture; and is currently training to qualify as an Art Therapist- her immersion in the Lakou and ceremony culture helped to root Laura in the essentials, a call for a return to the source of being in deep connection with self.

ESSENCE is an inclusive multisensory experience to help foster greater connections. Through a pedagogy adapted to all audiences and at all levels (children, adults, beginners or seasoned professional dancers, music lovers and wall huggers) Laura will present the essence of the traditional Haitian dance. Accompanied by live percussion (by special guest Ted Beaubrun) students will learn choreography that will be performed together, like a large family in a single ‘Lakou’.

Laura recommends:

-Space: Find a clear, comfortable, and safe space

- Wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in

- Painting: We invite you to bring paper (thick paper if possible) and coloured pencils or paint.
