Afro Cluster & Dirty Alex at Outer Space Bristol
See event details

A gig on Thursday 1st July. The event starts at 18:30.

AFRO CLUSTER is a Cardiff-born collective inspired by the legacy of West-African Funk/Afrobeat and the golden age of Hip-Hop.
Early releases ‘Enter The Lion’ (2013) and ‘We Don Land’ (2016) reflect this merging of styles
and, adorned with lyrics by Skunkadelic, their songs confront disparity and injustice in the
modern world.

“A band with head and heart in tune. A refreshing concept in this day and age.”- BBC Radio Wales.

Their message has been well received on the road at prime festival slots in the UK including
Glastonbury, WOMAD, Green Man, Boomtown and Wilderness. They’ve also picked up support
shows with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Hot 8 Brass, People Under The Stairs and Ibibio Sound
Machine.
Afro Cluster is Skunkadelic (vocals), DJ Veto (turntables & percussion), Andrew Brown (bass),
Charlie Piercey (guitar & keyboards), Russell Evans (trombone), Laurence Collier (trumpet)
Sam Robertson (Saxophone) and Django Lancaster Thomas (drums).

DIRTY ALEX blend four parts Jazz musicians, three measures over proof Hip-hop emcees and hugely inspired by Guru’s 1993 album ‘Jazzmatazz’.One shot of soul. That’s Dirty Alex. A Cardiff based hip-hop/Jazz collective.

They released their 2nd studio project DA in June 2019, with the track In my head immediately being picked up by BBC Radio Wales. Working alongside musicians from Cardiff band Slowly Rolling Camera, this new EP lends itself to a cleaner, more refined jazz sound from the band, with even more acutely political lyrics from the vocalists. Both EP’s are available on all digital platforms including spotify, Bandcamp and Apple music.
