Wax Carving Jewellery Workshop
This is a relaxed, hands-on 3-hour workshop where you’ll design and carve your own unique ring or pendant using jeweller’s wax. No experience is needed – just a bit of curiosity, creativity, and a love for shiny things!
Wax carving is an ancient jewellery-making technique that offers complete creative freedom. I’ll guide you through key techniques, show you how to use the tools safely and effectively, and explain the different stages your piece will go through as it takes shape. Whether you're drawn to bold forms, fine detail, or organic textures, you’ll be supported in bringing your ideas to life.
By the end of the session, you’ll have created your finished wax design, ready for casting. After the workshop, I’ll either send your piece off to be professionally cast using the lost wax casting method – which captures every fine detail – or I’ll cast it myself in my studio using the sandcasting method, which results in a beautifully organic, textured finish.
Once cast, I’ll take care of all the finishing and polishing before posting your unique piece of jewellery to its new home.
You’ll come away with a one-of-a-kind piece – designed and made by you – using one of the oldest and most rewarding techniques in jewellery making.
If you’ve ever wanted to make your own jewellery or just fancy a few creative hours, this workshop is for you.
Lost Wax Casting vs. Sand Casting
Both are traditional metal casting methods, but they produce very different results.
Lost Wax Casting
Involves creating a detailed wax model, which is encased in a mold. The wax is melted out and replaced with molten metal.
Highly precise – captures fine details exactly as they appear in the wax.
Results in a smooth, clean finish.
Ideal for intricate, refined work.
Sand Casting
A model is pressed into sand to create a mold, then removed so molten metal can be poured into the cavity.
Less precise, with a more organic, natural feel.
The sand leaves a beautiful texture on the metal surface.
Great for bold, sculptural pieces with character.
