Line Go Down: Bristol Transformed talks Economics at PRSC
See event details

A event held at PRSC on Tuesday 18th October. The event starts at 18:30.

Only a few weeks into the job, Liz Truss has overseen the death of a monarch, almost destroyed the pound and has no answers to the cost of living crisis. Instead, our new PM and her chancellor have set out their plan to do what the Tories do best: tax cuts for the rich. Markets did not respond well to this, devaluing the currency, sending the bond market into crisis, and the Bank of England had to step in to get pension funds out of trouble.
Why did all of this happen? What's the role of the Bank of England? What does all of this mean for workers? We will cut through the finance speak, discussing all these topics and more, as well as answering your questions.
Speakers:
Daniela Gabor, Professor of Economics and Macro-Finance at UWE
Jo Michell, Associate Professor of Economics at UWE
Jennifer Churchill, Senior Lecturer in Economics at UWE
