APHELION XIX: CARRAGEENAN (BE) / BEYT AL TAPES (BE) / TRAUMKL / DJ KERM (BE)
UPSTAIRS, ROLL FOR THE SOUL
Belgian sonic wizards Beyt Al Tapes, Carageenan and DJ Kerm visit us in Bristol at Roll For The Soul as they embark on their UK tour. Local support comes from mysterious new unit Traumkl.
CARAGEENAN (BELGIUM)
Carrageenan makes hard dystopian technoise and is the moniker for the Brussels based underground star Matthieu Levet. He forms with fellow Brussels undergrounder TG the band Pizza Noise Mafia. Played last year a killer set at the KRAAK festival.
Beyt al Tapes is Arabic of the house of tapes. It started out as label to become a solo project which creates tape-compositions in which ghosts, exotic cultures and straight forward avant-garde appear—although the avant-garde is more about being caught in a poetic loop. It’s about tapes, hi-frequencies, sons trouvés, abstract synths, rudimentary vocal poetry and open concepts, but also about playing chess, obsession with concrete details of reality and chasing spectral phenomenae. Sometimes Beyt al tapes uses worn out bed sheets to make a point. Tagline: conveyer of general confusion.
KERM records, who released also stuff by Köhn, Brecht Ameel, Moniek Darge, Godfried Willem Raes (of logos) and many more, releases the new album.
Niels Kerm, head honcho of the ever prolific kerm label, keeping the flame of the underground cassette culture in Ghent alive and kicking.
TRAUMKL
New Bristol-based project live electronics project. A live, completely improvised ambient / electronic / noise project. Conceived to hypnotise, confuse, sooth and sonically assault in equal measure.
