Electronic Music Open Mic (EMOM) Tour | Hosted by This Human Condition | Rough Trade Bristol
Background
The all electronic music open mics (EMOM) were established to provide a performance and meeting place for artists involved in all forms of electronic music making. The nights have been running from early 2017 and have been held in towns and cities all across the UK. The events have been very popular and are organised as supportive, friendly forums where artists can listen to each other’s music, meet other electronic music makers and share ideas. Many collaborations and friendships have emerged as a result of these nights. At the end of last year, a compilation album was released featuring many of the composers. Future EMOM releases are also in the pipeline.
The nights were set up by Martin Christie (Poet and the Loops) Martin has asked Bristol’s electronic duo This Human Condition to host this time. The nights are very well attended fast becoming very popular around the UK. This Human Condition is Jamie Jamal & Misterminchie formed in Bristol in January 2015, blending many different styles of electronica including house and synth-pop and creating a sort of Electronic Handbag Punk sound. Think Early Depeche Mode meets a darker Erasure! The track 'Psychotropic' was described as Boy George meets The Prodigy and is featured on the EMOM 'YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THIS' release. The duo has performed at Glastonbury Festival in 2017 and ‘Rise' has been played on BBC6Music by Tom Robinson on his BBC-introducing show.
The night is returning to Bristol after the success of the last event held on May 18th at Rough Trade in Bristol.
The night will suit electronic music of all kinds and varieties including dance, ambient, noise, electropop, techno, glitch, electrojazz, chiptune, loopers, improvised, live coding, experimental, trance etc
Get out of the home studio and into the light of a listening and appreciative audience. Laptops, synths, drum machines, loop stations, groove boxes, sequencers, samplers, iPads, modular synths, apps, keyboards, decks, analogue and digital devices of all kinds welcome. Meet other electronic music makers, share ideas and collaborate. There will be ample time and space to discuss this form of music making.
Slots are up to 15 minutes (including set up and pack down times). Get in touch with This Human Condition (@ConditionThis) on Facebook or by email: [email protected] for more details.
Sorry - no acoustic guitars – unless they are being used to generate soundscapes or some other style of music in keeping with the night. This is an acoustic free zone (there are already some super nights in Bristol to suit acoustic musicians). Also, you must perform your music in some way and not just leave a laptop onstage.
Cameras and recording devices welcome.
Rough Trade has a bar serving drinks, snacks, and alcohol.
