A gig on Thursday 16th December. The event starts at 20:00.

Thu 16 Dec 2021, 8pm - 10.30pm (doors 7.30pm)
St Stephens Bristol, BS1 1EQ
On door: £10/£5 under-16

This rousing and eclectic double bill mines the easy brilliance of two classy lineups.

Exciting and entertaining, Chai For All plays Old World Yiddish folk, New World Yiddish theatre songs and jazz-tinged klezmer. A magnificent musical journey from the haunted Eastern European shtetls, through the dimly-lit basement bars of tango-crazed Buenos Aires, to the vibrant neighbourhoods of swinging New York. Impassioned female vocals lead the party, joyously backed by trumpet, guitar and percussion. With fantastic music, tongue-in-cheek banter, brilliant audience rapport and more than a touch of goodtime showbiz this is a powerhouse set guaranteed to raise the spirits.

The programme opens with Opa Rosa's brawlingly energetic and vibrant crossbreed klezmer, Gypsy and Balkan music. This richly adventurous quartet (violin, accordion, clarinet and double bass) brings vividly alive the dynamic and distinctive music of the Balkans, Greece and beyond, learnt first-hand from masters of their traditions. Opa Rosa's joyful dances and soaring melodies transport you to faraway lands...
