A event held at Sidney & Eden on Sunday 12th April. The event starts at 19:00.
The Indie Classics Film Club returns Sunday April 12th for a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s dark thriller FRENZY.
The penultimate film of his career, Frenzy has all the elements that made the Master of Suspense such a legendary filmmaker, from its agonisingly tense set pieces to its mischievous sense of humour. A murderer is on the loose in London, who uses a necktie as his signature weapon; after his ex-wife becomes one of the victims, down-on-his-luck protagonist Richard has to prove his innocence after becoming the prime suspect.
But this also has a darker edge to it than Hitchcock’s earlier work - of the 50+ feature films he made throughout his career, this is the most uncomfortable to watch. Liberated by the freedoms that came with the relaxation of censorship, he returned to the fears and fetishes that preoccupied him through his career, and made them more explicit.
A reminder that this film will be a Sunday, before we switch in May to a new slot of the last Wednesday of every month. Everything else remains the same, though - we’re in the downstairs room of the Sidney and Eden pub, doors open at 18:30 for a 19:00 start for a start, and entry is free. And all are welcome to stay for a drink with us at the bar afterwards.
