It’s October, which for a film club can only mean one thing - time to pick an obscure horror film to screen!
We’ve gone for SISTERS (1972), Brian de Palma’s twisted slasher film about a separated conjoined twin who is accused of murder by her sleuthing neighbour. Four years before finding fame and acclaim with Carrie, this low-budget psychological horror already established De Palma as a new master of suspense, full of gripping tension, mischievous sleights of hand and lurid violence.
As well as playing loving homage to Alfred Hitchcock with its themes of voyeurism, tense set pieces and propelling soundtrack (scored by Bernard Herrmann), De Palma carves his own niche and distinctive style that has since become his trademark, most notably ingenious uses of split screens.
Come along to the Sidney and Eden pub on Tuesday October 21st, any time from 18:30 for a 19:00 start. Entry is free, and all are welcome to stay for a drink afterwards!
