OPA ROSA
Fast gaining a reputation as one of Bristol’s most dynamic and virtuosic bands, Opa Rosa are an energetic acoustic ensemble sharing music from the Klezmer, Balkan, Greek & Roma traditions. With several combined decades of study and experience, all five musicians are well-versed in the musical traditions’ syntax and significance, capturing all the joy and sorrow that these traditions are so renowned for expressing.
The ornate interplay of Isis Wolf-Light’s clarinet and Lulu Ruby Rose’s violin blends with the authentic sound of Thomas Hodson’s accordion; Isaac Ellis dances up and down the double bass with punchy grace, while Ricardo De Noronha’s skillful and nuanced percussion underpins the music with foot-tapping rhythms and grooves.
Enjoy a collection of vibrant and soulful melodies played with fiery precision and let Opa Rosa take you on a foot-stomping journey through the Balkans and beyond!

HANDS OF THE HERON
Hands of the Heron are a dreamfolk trio from Bristol, UK. Their instantly recognisable vocal harmonies are delivered by three frontwomen, each of whom brings a signature writing style to the band’s mercurial sound. They move effortlessly between sparse choral folk and spellbinding chamber pop, richly layered with an assortment of strings, drones and reeds.
They’re excited to share brand new music this summer, following the release of their long-awaited second album 13 Moons in February 2021 on their own DIY label Cuculi Records. The album has been praised as “a wondrous collection of curious story-songs, choral singing and carefully layered instrumentation” (Joyzine) with “songwriting mastery that perfectly delivers reverberating folk-pop” (Tap The Feed), while esteemed jazz critic Ted Gioia recommended 13 Moons as one of his top recordings for 2021.
Cuculi Records joins a growing number of DIY labels based in Bristol, UK. It’s a collective effort imagined by songwriters and musicians as a space to cultivate our own sound and release it independently.
We’re honoured to be releasing the emerging projects dreamed into being by friends from our community, with a focus on alt-folk, poetry, ambient and contemporary classical forms – as well as beautiful sounds that don’t have a name yet. This space has been a creative cocoon for us to develop our craft, and we want to share it with you.
