Rah - atmospheric free jazz at St Anne’s church, greenbank
Free for curious. £5 with digital album

A gig on Friday 27th March. The event starts at 20:00.

Rah! is a Bristol free-improv collective that practices every other month at the light of St Anne’s Church, Greenbank — a little gem space at the heart of Easton. IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE CHAT TO PABLO BEFORE THE GIG (or on the interlude). The group plays entirely improvised music built around shared pulse and repetition rather than fixed songs or melodies. Their sound moves through minimalist, neo-classical, trance rhythm, ambient texture, and slow-burning groove — somewhere between spiritual jazz, kraut energy, and the deep stillness of drone. Expect: hypnotic, raw, and emotive. The band’s members are active participants in Bristol’s vibrant improvised and experimental scene, performing in projects such as Improv Greatest Hits, Community Jam Collective, Freejazz Gachapon at The Dark Horse, The Broken Numbers, Byrfyfyr Free Improv, Elmer’s Arms, and others. For this day: - Alice Dyson - violin - David Croshaw (David/David) - drums - Nile Robinson - harmonicas - Pablo Jimenez-Moreno (Imperceptible clouds) - guitar / trumpet - Paul Anstey (broken numbers) - double bass - Kathryn Evans - cello - Waseem Albahri (AWE) - piano This is not a typical gig but an invitation to witness a living process: a collective jam in the round, where the outcome is unknown and every sound is entirely improvised. The evening will be one of the bi-monthly practices of the band Tickets are just £5, supporting the publishing of recording costs — attendees who pay the fee will receive a free digital link once the album is out.
