Raise the Bar presents a warm and wonderful evening of poetry and music.

The event will include an open mic, plus TWO featured artists - the powerful vocals of Kerensa, and the exquisite poetry of Edson Burton.

Whether you are a poet or musician wanting to share some new work, or you're just wanting to sit back with some cafe snacks and beverages to enjoy Bristol's local talent, this is the evening for you.

Our friends at Bristol Tonic will also be hosting a free Writing Jam at 5:30 around the corner at Brandon Hill. If you'd like to come along and do some writing, a free ticket for this can be booked alongside your event ticket.

Tickets: http://hdfst.uk/E66213
(To sign up for the open mic, you must buy an 'Open Mic Ticket')

There are just 40 seats available to be booked. This is so that the event can be moved to the indoor Café Bar if it rains. If the weather forecast is good leading into the event, an additional 10 tickets will be released.

We ask audience members to practice social distancing where possible, and to wear a mask when going indoors to order from the bar or use the toilet.

With a sound that will remind you of music’s purpose, Kerensa seamlessly shifts from dark and brooding to upbeat and satirical, all whilst expressing her integrity as an artist. You will find it hard not to connect with an artist that shows you such honesty.

Whether it’s in the unique vocal delivery, her willingness to write about challenging topics, or the unexpected sprinkling of sounds, Kerensa’s music kicks back against the status quo. Her 2019 single ‘Talk’, focused on sexual abuse, is testament to this selfless desire to help and connect.

Built on a bed of synth-pop textures and contemporary grooves, her music has a film-like quality, driven by the strong narrative element in her writing. You’ll feel her music is familiar, yet so imaginatively different. It’s rare for you to see so many elements of culture collide in music and be successfully delivered with such charisma. But that just embodies Kerensa.
