The baroque ensemble El Gran Teatro del Mundo specialise in bringing out the individuality of each instrumentalist whilst remaining united under a common artistic vision. Tonight they focus on a genre called ‘concerto da camera’ in which each player performs a double role as soloist and also accompanist. From the origins of the genre in Italy with Vivaldi to its later German form, El Gran Teatro del Mundo explores the different facets of this genre which combines the virtuosity and contrasts of its orchestral brother with the intimacy of a chamber music setting.
