A gig on Friday 3rd April. The event starts at 19:30.

Come along to Bristol Chamber Orchestra’s Spring Concert in the beautiful setting and acoustic of the church of St Mary Magdalene, Stoke Bishop. We begin with Bartók’s selection of Eastern European folk melodies, then a depiction of the English countryside by Vaughan Williams in his jaunty oboe concerto. It will be an honour to welcome rising star oboist Alice Rivers, a native of Stoke Bishop, who is fully involved in the local music scene and will shortly be taking up a place to read music at Cambridge University.

Our second half features Tchaikovsky’s jubilant Serenade for Strings, which has a full emotional range from fragility and despair to playful and triumphant. Tchaikovsky tests all the performers with dramatic contrasts, stunning melodies and constant rhythmic drive. This much-loved serenade, which is among the finest in the repertoire, will leave you with a smile on your face. We hope you can join us.
