Headfirst Editor's Pick

"The Cowfolk continue an incredible run of PWYC stereotype-busting presentations aimed at dispelling imperialist myths and misrepresentations of global peoples. This edition focuses on the Kurdish women's freedom movement, with a feature length doc focusing on their guerilla conflicts against Iraqi and Turkish forces. An utterly essential education and solidarity evening for all!"

A event on Tomorrow. The event starts at 18:30.

Join us for the fourth Easton Cowfolk Radical Film Club night, Monday 10th February at St Paul's Learning Centre.
Doors: 6pm
Start: 6.30pm

We will be screening Zaynê Akyol's brilliant 'Gulîstan, Land of Roses' (2016), a film following a unit of the Women's self-defence forces of the Kurdish freedom movement, as they receive training and education in the Kurdish mountains to prepare for their struggle against ISIS and the Turkish state.

The film highlights the collective spirit and individual stories of revolution amongst the comrades, and in doing so covers the tenets of the movement: including women's liberation (jineolojî), social ecology, and democratic confederalism.
These will be further discussed and elaborated upon after the screening by a well-informed panel of activists and experts affiliated with the movement and its ideas, with audience participation encouraged.

This is part of our wider series of screenings where we learn about how imperialism shapes the world, and how people around the world are struggling against it. As was the case with our previous events, the focus will be on how we can act in solidarity with this global struggle in Bristol specifically.

More information about organisations to support, actions to take, wider reading, and further films to watch about the movement will be provided to attendees.
There are warnings for distressing themes, but no age restrictions.

Snacks will be provided by ...

All money raised on the evening will be donated to humanitarian organisations providing aid to civilians in Syria, caught up in the Turkish-backed invasion of the Kurdish movement controlled AANES (Autonomous Administration of North-Eastern Syria).

Entry requirements: no age restrictions
