Despite some feeble attempts to sanitise Starmer's role as Prime Minister, his record is one of kowtowing to the billionaires, cruelly maintaining the two-child benefit cap (and one million children in poverty), robbing millions of pensioners of their winter fuel allowance, tailing the racist polices of the far right, and supporting Israel's genocidal attacks on Gaza and criminalising ordinary people who protested against it. His sickening opportunism and sanctimonious persona combined with ethical emptiness made him one of the most widely disliked prime ministers in British history.
Does Sarmer's replacement by Andy Burnham, who is presented as a more left wing alternative, give genuine reason to feel hopeful?
What is the wider systemic context behind the political turmoil which has seen the the political centre collapsing and a seventh new Prime Minister in 10 years?
How can we actually bring the change that millions of ordinary working people so urgently need?
Come and join in the discussion. Hosted by Bristol Socialist Workers Party.
What to expect at this meeting
An informal, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, in which a speaker will initially introduce the main topic before we break into smaller group discussion. Then we’ll come back together again for a wider discussion and questioning followed by a summing up. The second section of the meeting involves a more practical focus on current activities and campaigns. There will also be a bookstall and publicity for upcoming events.
