A event on Today. The event starts at 18:00.

Steph is an enthusiastic hiker with a love of long distance paths, and also loves bike touring and cold water swimming. She spends part of her time working for plus size inclusivity in the outdoors through the organisation she co-founded, Every Body Outdoors, and she has also worked as a freelance writer for the past 8 years, writing about farming, clothing/kit and the outdoors for a range of print and online publications.

Every Body Outdoors was established in 2022 and is a community organisation that is working for plus size inclusivity in the outdoors. They work with brands and retailers to expand the size offering of their clothing and kit, advise on plus size fit, and fight for better representation of plus size bodies. They also run courses and events to provide a safe and supportive space for plus size people to get outdoors, including running 14 Intro to Hill Skills and Improvers Navigation courses over the last 3 years, and setting up 26 regional walking groups around the UK. They have received press coverage in the Guardian, Women’s Hour, Ramblings with Claire Balding, Trail Magazine, Country Walking Magazine and Countryfile Magazine. In her talk, Steph will talk about the barriers she faced being plus sized in the outdoors, the work that Every Body Outdoors does with the industry to get clothing and kit in larger sizes, and the importance of creating safe and supportive spaces to get people into the outdoors. She will also bring along a collection of plus size waterproof jackets, trousers and extended fit rucksacks from 12 different brands for people to try on after the talk.
