Limpet is a musical project by Giorgio Cortiana and Joe Hall. They make experimental improvised music using drums and modular synthesisers. The instruments are inter-connected using contact microphones, creating some interesting relations between all the elements involved. Limpet are all about multi-disciplinary collaborations, they often work with other artists incorporating live reactive visuals, projection mapping and other reactive elements in their shows.

Limpet will be performing a special set purposefully designed for St. Stephen’s church and its acoustics. The set is built for free improvisation, with a setup split into separate 'stations', which feature a mixture of modular synthesisers, percussion, effect pedals, all interconnected via contact microphones. Improvisation, live feedback and interaction are key elements of this performance.

The church space will be brought alive by video and light projections that have been mapped to the structure. The visuals are synced to the music, and will react in real-time to the improvisation of the performers. The live interactive visuals are designed by Pablo de las Cuevas, in collaboration with Limpet.

Dan Johnson is a percussionist and educator known for pushing the boundaries of drumming, particularly through their work in improvisation, durational performance art and as leader of the inclusive percussion project, ‘Ecstatic Drum Beats’. Audiences have described their work as vulnerable, generous, enduring and untethered.

This performance will be entirely acoustic.

'A staple of Bristol's experimental music community and an expressionist solo drummer in their own right, Dan is constantly exploring and searching for new ways to examine the possibilities of sound and rhythm, be it through the exploration of obscure or abandoned spaces, interdisciplinary collaboration, or inclusive education. In my opinion, Dan is one of the most exciting percussionists working in the field today; they have developed a singular style and become widely known for the unique focus and intensity of their solo and collaborative performances. Running through all of their work is a conceptual rigour that draws on interdisciplinary influences from music, experimental performance, theatre and community practice.' Al Cameron (Bristol New Music / The Wire)

'Dan Johnson needs to be seen to be believed…an exciting addition to any band's lineup, but as a solo performer his drumming is unparalleled…engaging audiences and never bowing to the traditional limitations of the instrument, Dan continues to exceed his last, best performance' Ed Taylor, 'The Grey Area', Noods Radio

“How a solo percussionist can make such powerfully emotive music is hard to fathom” - Headfirst Bristol
