Murmuration Choir is very excited to announce their 5th concert, taking place at St. Stephen's Church (Bristol) this Spring, in collaboration with singer-songwriter/producer, Aisha Vaughan (FKA Chaouche). Both Gothic and soothing, sharing a personal story of healing and transformation, Aisha's flourishing cocoon of sound is a perfect fit for the season, as we celebrate the equinoxial transition from darkness into light.
AISHA VAUGHAN
Aisha (previously known as Chaouche) spent her childhood growing up in Swansea before moving to Bristol to develop her practise as a songwriter. Her delicate piano playing features prominently in her sound, and is bolstered by balanced production of her own massed vocals, programmed drums, sub-bass, cello, violin and an obsession with reverb and delay. Her music has been described as “heartbreaking, spine tingling hymns” by Wonderland Magazine, “channelling the hymnal qualities of Cat’s Eyes with the dense vocals of Medúlla-era Björk” by The Line of Best Fit and a “songwriter of real strength and subtlety” by Clash. Bristol Live Magazine has hailed her "the city’s most exciting new act". Support has also come from BBC 6 Music's Lauren Laverne, who said she'd played Aisha "on a loop all week", and Radio 1's Huw Stephens who simply calls her music “beautiful".
Tonight, Murmuration Choir will join Aisha on several of her songs, including both pre-existing and unreleased tracks.
In just a year, Murmuration Choir have quickly become one of Bristol's most exciting and progressive vocal projects, bringing together 72 established singers and curating sell-out collaboration shows with the likes of Rachael Dadd, Sam Brookes, Cosmo Sheldrake and Mesadorm. Inspired by 6Music DJs, their repertoire draws from Neo-Soul, Electronica, and Experimental Pop, arranged into 8-part harmony and directed by Isolde Freeth-Hale, with beatbox accompaniment from Jack Salt & Simon Abel.
Tonight we shall be sharing 2 new choral renditions of Sylvan Esso and Pete Josef, solos from guest vocalists Michaela Fedeczko, Nick Rasle, Katherine Hogg & Jamie Robertson, and a rhythmic awakening from our beat makers to help with that clock-shifting lost hour.
