Dean Rodney Jr. & The Cowboys + Zoee at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Outsider pop purveyor Dean Rodney Jr returns to town with his rootin’ tootin’ Cowboy band, serving the Brew a gold-clad spectacle of wonky disco funk and deadpan absurdism in dreeeamy company with the disquieting avant-jazz of Illegal Data’s Zoee. FFO: Gary Wilson, early Ariel Pink, Shopping, Mermaid Chunky, Wendy Miasma."

Strange Brew presents
Dean Rodney Jr. & The Cowboys
+ Zoee (Scenic Route / Illegal Data)
Saturday 31 January 2026
19:00 - 22:00

We’re blasting away those post-Christmas & NY cobwebs with a double bill of ultra-fun, hyper-colourful wonky-pop to light up the end of Jan.

DEAN RODNEY JR. & THE COWBOYS

Dean Rodney Jr. is a prolific writer and musician, best recognised as the golden-suited frontman of Dean Rodney Jr. & The Cowboys. The band bring an explosion of performance and outsider art, blending surreal lyrics, disco-pop, funk and hip-hop with visionary world-building often focussed on food and the body. If you caught these guys back in summer for Three Wheel Drive or for 20 Years of Qu Junktions back in September 2024, you'll know this live performance is unmissable!

ZOEE

Zoee is the music project of London-based artist Harriet Zoe Pittard.

Her latest album ‘Grandiose Love’ is an amalgamation of Zoee’s various sonic, literary and artistic influences, drawing inspiration from sophisti-pop, jazz and electronic styles as well as the writings of Hilma af Klint and poet Chelsey Minnis.

The 8-track record grew out of improvised jam sessions with bassist Kyrone Oak, keys player Laura Norman and percussionist Hiro Ama as well as additional writing and production contributed by indie musician and composer Jeremy Warmsley.

Previously, Zoee has released singles through Ryan Hemworth's 'Secret Songs' imprint and Vegyn’s label Plz Make It Ruins. In 2021 she released her debut album ‘Flaw Flower’ on Bristol label Illegal Data. She has performed as a vocalist on tracks with PC Music and Hot Chip's Joe Goddard. In 2024 she released her single ‘Moth To A Flame’ featuring Nourished By Time via London label Scenic Route.

Alongside her record releases she runs a record label for ‘unruly music’ Scrawl World Limited.
