A very special treat for Halloween weekend...
Nosferatu is horror cinema’s foundational text. Tonight this iconic classic of silent-era expressionism will be taken to a new, otherworldly realm with a hypnotic and haunting original live score by acclaimed musician Circuit des Yeux, accompanied by Alan Sparhawk of legendary Duluth indie band Low.
F.W. Murnau’s infamously unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula stars an unforgettable Max Schreck as Count Orlok, a ghoulish vampire who lures his victims to his shadowy Transylvanian castle. Authorized or not, Murnau’s spooky masterpiece remains the definitive Dracula over a hundred years (and at least as many versions) later.
Circuit des Yeux is Haley Fohr (b. Dec 16 1988) - a vocalist, composer and singer-songwriter based in Chicago, Illinois. Her musical endeavors focus around our human condition, and her 10-year career as Circuit des Yeux has grown into one of America’s most successful efforts to connect the personal to the universal. She is most distinctly identified by her 4-octave voice and unique style of 12-string guitar. Her recent albums have landed on numerous best-of-year lists, including The Wire and NPR. Her latest, Halo on the Inside, was released last year on Matador Records and received effusive praise from Pitchfork and The New York Times. “An artist who feels increasingly, thrillingly peerless” (Bandcamp Daily).
Alan Sparhawk is best known for his three-decade tenure as the frontman of the legendary band Low. His many side projects over the years reveal a musician unafraid to experiment with genres ranging from punk and funk to production and improvisation. Now, as a solo artist, he’s delving deeper into experimental and intimate sonic spaces, combining haunting melodies with introspective lyricism that explores themes of love, loss, and resilience. His recent solo work finds him experimenting with minimalism and ambient textures and at the same time marrying beats and production with vocoder-heavy vocal stylings.
