Olan Monk, 33 & ‘Nzʉmbe at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Another essential one from Schwet for fans of future-facing experimentalism. With a recent release on AD93, C.A.N.V.A.S. founder Olan Monk brings hypnotic heavy-pop laced with gothic dub and distorted guitars whilst fellow Irish avant-garde innovators 33 lean into splintered Baroque and ritualistic electronics. ATC-affiliate and one half of Harrga, Miguel Prado completes the bill with noise pop romanticism as Nzʉmbe."

7pm - 10.30pm

OLAN MONK (with Michael Speers)
33 (Billy Bultheel & Alexander Iezzi)
Nzʉmbe (Harrga, Nzʉmbe)

Schwet and Strange Brew present a night of heavy, gothic-tinged pop and fractured electronics from Ireland's foremost experimental label C.A.N.V.A.S. Featuring performances from label boss Olan Monk (with Michael Speers) and new act 33 (Billy Bultheel & Alexander Iezzi), and support from Miguel Prado (one half of Harrga / Nzʉmbe)

Olan Monk is a musician, performer and writer from Connemara, Ireland. They co-founded C.A.N.V.A.S. as an events series and record label, established in 2018 to give collective agency to an increasingly dispersed community of artists. Their practice involves experimental and popular songwriting, performing as a solo act and in collaboration with other musicians, including recordings and performances with Actress, Ashley Paul, Elvin Brandhi, James K, Maria Somerville and Michael Speers. Past releases include Love/Dead (2020) and Auto Life (2021) on C.A.N.V.A.S. and Dubplate 08 (2022) on AD 93.

33 - Billy Bultheel and Alexander Iezzi further consolidate a partnership which has taken many forms within a visual, artistic spectrum. Their practice envelops performance art, music and installation. Bultheel brings his conservatory training and Iezzi coming from DIY punk and experimental music scenes
