Extra Terrestrial Promotions & Velvet Echoes are proud to present Minami Deutsch, a band hailing from Japan and proving to be one of the leading figures in contemporary krautrock. Known as self-proclaimed “repetition freaks,” the band draw inspiration from psychedelic rock and minimal techno, but their true obsession lies in krautrock — a fact hinted at by their name, which translates to “South Germany.”
Special guests on the evening are Floral Image, a Norwich based psych outfit rapidly rising through the ranks as a result of their infectious live shows and collaboration with Fuzz Club Records on their latest LP "Gone Down Meadowland".
Minami Deutsch
Founded by Kyotaro Miula in 2014, the band began by performing live on the bustling streets of Tokyo. Since then, they have released three albums through their local friend's label Guruguru Brain. Their hypnotic, motorik-driven sound has taken them across Europe and the United States, where they’ve shared stages with artists like Damo Suzuki, the former vocalist of the legendary krautrock band CAN.
Their third studio album, *Fortune Goodies* (2022), is a deep dive into the rich legacy of krautrock. Drawing from Miula's expanded musical vocabulary after relocating from Tokyo to Berlin, the album offers a uniquely Japanese perspective on encyclopedia of Krautrock. In 2024, Minami Deutsch completed two North American tours, including supporting Earthless and performing at the Levitation Festival, further cementing their place as a leading voice in modern kraut/psychedelic music.
Floral Image
There is a mischief and daydream to the character Floral Image, on full dynamic display across their latest record - a reflection of both the playful fraternity of band members Fergus Nolan (vocals, guitars), Jack Warner (vocals, keys), Matt Kennedy (bass guitar), Mitch Forsyth (drums, visuals), & Phil Whitton (guitars, visuals), and the ever-weaving textures they make together. It is an infrastructure that is unstructured; a body of work that bends and grows and shifts between light, dark, malaise, excitement. There are moments of head-down ferocity and, right there beside them, pools of pulsing wonderment. Fist and feather, hand in hand.
