Simon Spillett Quartet at The Be-bop Club
£9.00

A gig held at The Be-Bop Club on Friday 10th May. The event starts at 20:30.

Back in February we had to cancel Simon’s visit due to snow, so we’re very pleased to have been able to find a replacement date for him. Simon Spillett is a virtuosic hard-bop tenor sax player who has won the BBC Jazz Awards Rising Star (2007), Jazz Journal's Critics' Choice album of the Year (2009), the British Jazz Awards Top Tenor Saxophonist (2011), and the Services to British Jazz award (2016). Besides being a blistering player he is also a reviewer and biographer, and is an authority on the life and work of Tubby Hayes, one of the UK's most important jazz figures. Besides having written the biography Tubby Hayes - The Long Shadow Of The Little Giant and appearing in the film documentary Tubby Hayes: A Man In A Hurry, Simon keeps the Hayes legacy alive by performing much of Tubby's repertoire. He is joined by Jim Blomfield - piano, Riaan Vosloo - bass and Andy Hague - drums, who will be bracing themselves for some challenging tempos
