Andy Hague - trumpet, Dan Newberry - tenor sax, George Cooper - piano, Chris Jones - bass, Ryan Thrupp - drums

Dan Newberry and Andy Hague have played together at the club previously with Andy on drums, but this will be the first time they have joined forces in the front-line with Andy on trumpet. For tonight's performance they will be delving into Andy's extensive library of arrangements of tunes from 60s Blue Note onwards,

Saxophonist Dan Newberry is currently studying for a Masters at the Royal Welsh College and is one of the brightest rising stars of the scene. He studied with sax great Iain Ballamy from an early age, and has acquired an appreciation of all styles of jazz sax, able to switch from 30s swing to the most contemporary sounds in an instant.

Trumpeter Andy Hague has been a fixture on the Bristol scene for many years and is well known both for his jazz education activities and for running the club alongside a varied performance schedule.

Pianist George Cooper is of course the guiding force behind the Jazz Defenders, one of the most up and coming bands in the UK scene and who sold out the club for us back in April. Besides running the Jazz Defenders George is often away touring with The Haggis Horns, The Brand New Heavies or The Abstract Orchestra.

Bassist Chris Jones and young drummer Ryan Thrupp last played together for us at our season opening, when they turned in a steaming performance playing the music of Kenny Garrett with the Dave Jones Quintet.
