Rod Oughton - drums, Helena Kay - tenor sax, Will Barry - piano, Flo Moore - bass
Tomorrow’s New Quartet is a project that was formed last year amidst the various lockdowns and restrictions that were put in place to combat the pandemic. It plays the original music of Amsterdam-based drummer/composer Rod Oughton, who wrote most of this music during that challenging time. Oughton used composition to stay creative and optimistic during the lockdowns, and the band’s name is a reflection of that. Rod was also one of the first people to manage to put some gigs on after lockdown one, when he brought his excellent octet OK Aurora to the Hen and Chicken in October 2020.
Tomorrow's New Quartet has a stellar line up consisting of some of the UK’s fastest rising jazz stars.
Saxophonist Helena Kay is originally from Perth in Scotland, and is now based in London. In 2015 she won the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year award, and in 2017 she won the prestigious Peter Whittingham Award which allowed her to fund the recording of her first album Moon Palace.
Pianist Will Barry is a rising star of the London jazz scene who graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2016. He is part of numerous projects internationally, most prominently touring with Phronesis bassist Jasper Høiby’s group ‘Fellow Creatures’ in Turkey, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Holland and also extensively in the UK. In the last few years Will has performed at the North Sea, Love Supreme, Green Hours and Umbria Jazz Festivals. He also appears on the Alex Hitchcock Quintet CD All Good Things.
Flo Moore is one of the busiest young bassists in London, playing both double bass and bass guitar in a wide range of projects. Be-Bop Club regulars may remember her appearing with Henry Lowther's Still Waters in 2019, when she turned in a flawless performance deputising for veteran bass star Dave Green at short notice when Dave was unwell.
The band’s debut album “All Together, Now!” Is being released on the Ubuntu Music label in May 2022.
