Orcutt Shelley Miller + Cole Pulice at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Sell out warning! The Orcutt Shelley Miller trio tear through an avant-rock outer world, as Bill Orcutt’s iconoclastic outlaw shred interlaces with Steve Shelley’s mad percussion and Ethan Miller’s writhing bass. On support: electroacoustic composer Cole Pulice untethers sax and synth into boundless, dreamlike arcs. A fugitive voyage in sound FFO: Jim O’Rourke, Sonic Youth, Nala Sinephro, Pharoah Sanders."

ORCUTT SHELLEY MILLER
Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy) + Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) + Ethan Miller (Comets on Fire)
A heavyweight US trio operating at the fault line between rock and free improvisation, OSM unites three giants of American underground music: Bill Orcutt, incendiary guitarist with seminal ‘90s noise-rock outfit Harry Pussy brings a ferocious, deconstructed approach to guitar, honed through years of solo work and ensemble compositions. Steve Shelley, best known as the drummer for Sonic Youth, has remained a driving force in the indie and experimental music scenes since the early 1980s. And on bass, Ethan Miller has been a central figure in psychedelic and outer-rock movements, and visionary guitarist and vocalist of bands like Comets on Fire and Howlin’ Rain.
“Suspended between rock’n’roll order and psychedelic oblivion” — Pitchfork

COLE PULICE
Oakland-based saxophonist, composer and improviser Cole Pulice crafts luminous, otherworldly compositions at the intersection of cosmic jazz and digital synthesis. Check 2023’s soaring longform electroacoustic odyssey ‘If I Don’t See You in the Future, I’ll See You In the Pasture’ (selected as one of Pitchfork’s Best Songs Of The 2020s) or latest album ‘Land’s End Eternal’, which expands their compositional palette beyond signal-processed saxophone to include layers of electric guitar and lush choral arrangements, and has been on repeat in this manor since last year’s release.
