Blue Mondays with A Different Thread at The Boardroom

A gig on Monday 31st October. The event starts at 19:30.

Once upon a time, a blues dancer met a busker on the streets of Bristol and it made him want to dance. They got talking, and something special was born...

Bristol's weekly blues dancing night just got even better, with live music from A Different Thread!

BLUE MONDAYS
We're a community of dancers who meet once a week to dance the blues, with an hour of classes followed by two hours of dancing together. Blues is a great way to get into partner dancing, with a gentle learning curve and degendered teaching we make sure there is space for everyone and guarantee that by the end of your first session you'll be grooving to some great tunes on the social floor.

LIVE MUSIC FROM A DIFFERENT THREAD
A Different Thread is the collaboration between Robert Jackson from Lichfield, England, and Alicia Best from Durham, North Carolina, USA. Both traveling songwriters in their own right, they first met while busking in Galway, Ireland, back in 2016 and have been on the road together ever since.

Pulling from their respective roots, Best and Jackson have developed a sound that embraces elements of country, 70s’ folk revival, and piedmont blues as well as traditional English, Celtic, and Appalachian folk. Their blend of intimate, raw vocals with atmospheric instrumentation is reminiscent of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, while offering hooks in the style of folk-rockers like The Cranberries and The Band. For one night only, they'll be playing a special set for blues dancing.

INTRO TO BLUES DANCE FROM BLUE MONDAYS
Ahead of the show, we'll have one of our local dancers on hand to show you how to blues dance with a partner. Blues dance is a relaxed style of dance with emphasis on connecting and improvising over lots of complex steps. However many left feet you have, we promise we can get you dancing in time for the show!

TICKETS
In advance on Headfirst or on the door. Broke? Come dance with us anyway! If you can't afford to pay for the class that's okay, we do pay-what-you-can on the night. If you have something to throw in the musicians tip jar even better!
