The Queer Bookshelf with Layla McCay at The BookCellar
See event details

A event on Tuesday 9th June. The event starts at 19:00.

Join us for an evening of literary discovery as author Layla McCay guides us through the history of queer literature.

“We are in the middle of a vibrant renaissance of queer writing. But LGBTQ+ writers, characters and readers have been here since the beginning - quietly, defiantly, and persistently telling their stories - if you know where to look.

The Queer Bookshelf is your guide to this essential queer history, and to its contemporary flourishing. Drawing on the author's own journey as a queer reader and book club host, and packed with recommendations from authors, booksellers, and book lovers around the world, The Queer Bookshelf is a celebration of the books that have helped generations of LGBTQ+ people find themselves on the page.

From literary fiction to memoir, to crime, fantasy, and young adult, and even cowboy romance, The Queer Bookshelf is a warm, entertaining companion for anyone beginning or deepening their own queer reading adventure.”

Layla McCay will be in conversation with D-M Withers, Lecturer in Publishing at the University of Exeter and Director of Bristol based indie Lurid Editions, a publisher of rediscovered queer books from the twentieth century archive.

At the BookCellar we believe that the only thing better than a book is a glass of wine to go along with it. At each of our author events we'll work with our guest to pair their new book with a perfectly matched wine. You can then purchase your ticket, the book and a bottle of the chosen wine at a 10% discount (reflected in the price listed below).
