on Tuesday 3rd October. The event starts at 20:00.
We are excited to start this new season of Fringe In The Round with a fantastic double bill of young UK jazz talent.
We welcome 'Howl Quartet' and the Jonny Bruce Quartet
On tour from London, following the release of their very well received debut 'Airglow', and very successful shows around the UK the 'Howl' quartet bring their personal blend of melodic and engaging jazz and improvised music, with diverse influences from traditional jazz, the contemporary downtown NYC scene and rock- this will be an awesome introduction to their music at FITR we are excited for.
Howl is:
Dan Smith- Alto
Harry Brunt- Tenor
Matt Parkinson- Drums
Pete Komor- Bass
Bristol based Jonny Bruce is one of the most in demand trumpet players on the scene today. He is fluent in the whole history of jazz trumpet as he demonstrated some years back in his Trumpet Kings project, in which he covered pieces from Louis Armstrong to Freddie Hubbard. He’s a featured soloist with Moscow Drug Club, as well as maintaining a busy freelance career, in a variety of genres, performing with the likes of Bobby Shew, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis as well as Kelis and Illa J. Aside from his big band and small group work he is a passionate educator, the Musical Director of the Bristol Community Big Band, and his trumpet has recently been featured on the BBC drama series The Outlaws.
For his Hammond organ based line-up Jonny has put together a more hard-bop and Blue Note style set, including tunes from Horace Silver, Roy Hargrove and Stan Getz.
