2022 saw the release of No Go Stop’s second album, Where We Are. This Bristol powerhouse features musicians who have performed with the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, Jazz Defenders, Dundundun, The Heavy, Sheelanagig, and Pete Josef.
The album, two years in the making, follows their well-received debut Agbara Orin, which gained support from BBC 6 Music, Songlines, and firmly established the band as a high-energy 12-piece with a contemporary spin on the afrobeat sound.
Where We Are captures the vibrant live energy that earned the band support slots with Snarky Puppy and Ebo Taylor, saw them host Bristol’s tribute to Fela Kuti alongside Dele Sosimi, and appear at major festivals including Glastonbury, Green Man, Boomtown, and Shambala.
Driving percussion, ancestral funk, and heady improvisations remain at the heart of No Go Stop, but this new record also benefits from refined production by Nick Dover (Waldo’s Gift, Snazzback, Run Logan Run), along with sharp arrangements and big choruses that mark a clear evolution in the band’s music.
Marie Lister’s powerful vocals and rich harmonies explore mankind’s place in the world—our past, our future, our values, the challenges of modern society, and the joy of human connection. Where We Are is a hard-hitting collection of original tracks that speak to the mind, body, and soul—and is destined to light up dancefloors around the globe.
