Silver Waves is the longstanding project of Dylan Mallett. A producer based in Bristol, his practice encompasses aspects of electroacoustic composition, audio engineering and improvisation.
Amongst releases on Berlin's Portals Editions (Maria W Horn, Yair Elazar Glotman), Silver Waves has soundtracked independent video games and contributed to contemporary art pieces (Klein's ‘Lifetime' for Serpentine Galleries), as well as composing for multi-channel surround sound performance.
Following technical credits on releases from AD93, Drowned By Locals and two Acne Studios collections, European shows with Liturgy, aya and Moor Mother and extensive collaborations with free improv vocalist Dali de Saint Paul, Silver Waves presents debut album ‘Aninstar’ via Mun Sing & NE$$’s label Illegal Data.
Aninstar embodies a quest for rebirth via transitory states. Taking root during a four-month stint in Llandudno, it tells tales of a stray dog as it journeys through an underworld, conjures viking funeral sea-scapes from shoreline voice notes and liminal crossroads punctuated by whispered meditations.
Forming sonic allegories for the stories in Dylan’s surroundings, its six tracks emanate from coastal field recordings, pneumatic drill foley, chopped and screwed vocal takes and gnarled string instruments - landing somewhere between industrial shoegaze, sound collage and new age music.
Elvin Brandhi is a Welsh-born improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist whose explosive performances fuse stream-of-consciousness spoken word with distorted beats, field recordings and voice. A nomadic collaborator, she has worked with artists worldwide including Tony Allen, Sensational (Jungle Brothers), and the Ugandan collective Nyege Nyege, and appeared at major festivals such as CTM, Donaufestival, Borealis and TUSK. Her projects include Yeah You, Pollution Opera and BAHK, and she has released acclaimed records on Hakuna Kulala, C.A.N.V.A.S and Xing. Winner of the PRS Oram Award, Brandhi delivers unpredictable, furious and boundary-smashing live shows.
Holdfast is the debut EP from Stolen Velour, FLOCO & Aria SL, released on Bristol’s Illegal Data (Mun Sing & NE$$). Named after the anchoring root of seaweeds, the record fuses synthetic and analogue sounds, drawing from club, folk and pop with nods to anime and musical theatre. Born from a bond forged DJing house parties in South East London, the trio channel city life into four tracks that chronicle a shift from innocence to darker complexity. Blending digital aesthetics with acoustic instrumentation, Holdfast showcases a bold, chaotic and introspective new sound from three distinct artists.
